Indentations along the shore
Carved in sharp relief;
Dark the waters of the lake
Defying all belief.
Inland sea where men strive
Beneath a burning sun;
Timeless wonder for us all
As our lives are run.
Patchwork clump of islands
Appearing in the mist;
One just like a smiling face,
Another like a fist.
Huts! Round and sprinkled
On the undulating plain;
Gullies shaped by nature
And unrelenting rain.
A crucible of life is here
Where heated winds blow;
As I marvel from above,
Scanning down below.
